Fighting the Rare: documentary about rare diseases and the fight for research

Fighting the Rare is a documentary that addresses biomedical research in the search for effective treatments for rare diseases. With a sensitive and direct narrative, it focuses on Lafora disease, an uncommon neurodegenerative condition that affects adolescents and young adults.

The piece captures the voices of patients, families, and scientists who dedicate their lives to studying these minority pathologies, offering a human perspective committed to science and hope. Throughout the film, advances in research, the challenges of early diagnosis, and the emotional impact of living with an incurable disease are explored. It also reflects the ongoing work of laboratories, physicians, and foundations to promote new therapies and raise awareness for this cause.

In this project I participated as sound technician, responsible for recording the voiceovers that accompany the documentary’s narrative. My work consisted of ensuring the clarity, warmth, and presence of each testimony, so that the voice conveyed all the emotion and human weight of the story.

Fighting the Rare does not only inform: it moves, educates, and mobilizes, leaving an audio and visual testimony that invites reflection and action.
